Dr. Gladys Childs’ “Busting Barriers: Overcoming Emptiness and Unleash Fruitful Living” combines psychology and scripture to offer hope and healing
FORT WORTH, Tex., January 13, 2025 -- At a time when mental health is a focal point in our society, a popular author provides hope for individuals looking to overcome the adverse effects of loneliness and emptiness.
Loneliness and emptiness can severely impact mental health and increase the risk of anxiety by 1.5 times and depression by 40%. These feelings are also linked to eating disorders, making isolated people two-to-three times more likely to develop anorexia or bulimia, according to new research.
"Living out the fruit of the Spirit can improve mental health,” says Busting Barriers author Dr. Gladys Childs, who prescribes fruitful living to deal with various common issues plaguing the modern church.
In her new 45-day devotional, Childs offers that “Love and connection reduce anxiety and depression, while joy enhances resilience. Inner peace lowers stress, and patience aids coping. Kindness boosts well-being, and faithfulness provides purpose. Gentleness strengthens relationships, and self-control helps manage stress and prevent addiction. These qualities offer important benefits for dealing with anxiety, depression, and emotional distress.”
Busting Barriers, the first of a three-part series, is a guide to breaking through psychological barriers that keep Christians from living out the fruits of the Spirit.
Through scripture, practical application, self-affirmation statements, reflection, and guided journaling, Christians will be equipped to overcome obstacles to achieving fruitful living and relationships. Busting Barriers contains practical stories and relevant life issues and is appropriate for young and old readers, alike.
